The winner of a tender by the SAM project, titled ‘Erdem Medleg Tugeekh Tov’ carried out a 5 day business and financial management training

course for artisanal small miners (ASM) NGO’s within Khaan Bank’s targeted area for loan management. The purpose of the week long training was to build and strengthen artisanal miners’ financial and business management knowledge and skills.

In total there were 37 NGO representatives participating in the training.

According to a socio-economic baseline survey conducted among artisanal mining communities, there is a need for credit access to purchase efficient equipment. Most artisanal miners do not have access to credit as they own no collateral; those who do usually do not have other required documents to complete the bank loan requirements. They also lack necessary business and financial knowledge and skills to manage the earnings created through artisanal mining. Furthermore, they lack the knowledge to develop artisanal small mining in to a competitive business within their rural area.
