Mongolian Glossary

Aimag - Mongolia is divided administratively into 21 aimags (provinces) and the Capital city Ulaanbaatar
Soum - Aimags are divided into soums
Bagh - soums are divided into baghs, the least administrative unit
Ger - A Mongolian round traditional dwelling, made of felt and wood.
Dzud - A Mongolian climatic phenomenon - drought in summer followed by heavy snow in winter cause serious losses of livestock

SDC Mongolia/Sustainable Artisanal Mining (SAM) project invited RECOFTC to design and delivery a conflict management training program for selected staff of the SAM project and other related SDC programs: ‘Green and Gold, ‘Coping with Desertification’, ‘One-Stop-Shop’, ‘Revitalization of Mongolian Potato Sector Program’ as well as staff from the SDC Mongolia Coordination Office. The training was conducted between Monday 24 of September to Friday 5 of October 2007 for 15 participants.

Main objectives of the training were to increase participants’ understanding and ability to analyze conflict situations, broaden their knowledge of the role of third party mediation and the mediation process itself, and to enable participants to facilitate the mediation process between conflict parties through practice.
