The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Mongolia seeks to hire a motivated professional for the following post in the Community Mining team for its Sustainable Artisanal Mining (SAM) Project. The position is based in Bayankhongor aimag centre and valid until the end of the Project in 2014.
Community Mining Specialist
Key responsibilities
- Building capacity and provide support for artisanal and small scale miners (ASM) and Local governments within the Western aimags and Bayankhongor aimag in particular in their efforts towards ASM organisation and formalisation.
- Capacity building and support of ASM organizations in developing sustainable mining institutions.
- Support the process of technical and organizational capacity building of ASM for compliance with existing legislation and related gold producers and Fair trade and Fair-minded Standards
- Promote cooperation between artisanal mining communities, local government, large mines, policy makers and implementing agencies, academic institutions, processing plants and other service providers.
- To support setting up of functioning ASM networks such as federations, NGOs and partnerships for building up strong institutions for ASMs.
- To coordinate ASM related activities with all related government agencies such as MRAM, Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Welfare , local government officials etc.
Requirements
- University degree in community development, development studies, social sciences, education and business development.
- Experience in empowerment and participatory approaches, capacity building of sustainable community based institutions.
- Good organizational, analytical and communication skills.
- Commitment in working together and improving situation of small scale miners.
- Good teamwork skills; task and result oriented.
- Motivation to travel frequently to the country side and interact with artisanal mining communities.
- Good writing and oral English skills.
- Citizenship of Bayankhongor aimag an added advantage
