‘Duush Mandal Khairkhan Kholboo’ NGO members organized Open Day in Mandal Soum centre on May 15, 2009. It was initiated and organized by the ASM NGO members. They invited the Soum government officials e.g. Head of Citizen’s Representative Khurals, social insurance and environmental officers and representatives of local organizations including state institutions and economic entities/companies as well as artisanal miners. The NGO members presented their work progress, initiatives of artisanal miners, and future plans and shared their comments on proposed actions and challenges faced. There are about 600 members of 100 partnerships under the NGO. The Soum government provides the NGO with support. For instance, the NGO and partnership members are provided with permissions for land of 0.8 ha for construction of ore processing workshop and 1 ha for tree nursery in part ‘A’ of Bayanbulag area of Bagh 3 in Mandal Soum. At the moment, artisanal miners have planted over 40 seedlings in the tree nursery and made some preparation work for construction of ore processing workshop. The NGO closely cooperates with SAM project for implementation of project activities that deals with community development and facilitation, improved technical and technological aspects, and environmental conservation. On the event, the participants (representatives of local institutions, economic entities, companies and individuals) made donation and contributions (e.g. MNT 308,000 in cash, a set of computer, and credits of Skytel phone). During the event, some local artists, dancers and singers presented their performances and local TV studio ‘Zaluus’ made reporting. |
